HIGH COD TRIGGERED GRAB SAMPLER TO COLLECT PROOF DURING DISCHARGE EVENT
During a recent trade waste compliance program, utility engineers suspected a facility was discharging well above its consented limits. The problem? Traditional samplers couldn’t always catch the violation — the discharges were short, unpredictable, and often over before a grab sample could be taken.
That’s when Blue Siren’s Trade Waste Monitoring Kit went to work. Installed entirely underground and completely invisible to site staff, the system blended into the environment. It continuously measured COD in real time, with the capability to track additional parameters such as pH, EC, BOD, turbidity, TOC, temperature, ammonia, and dissolved oxygen.
When COD levels spiked beyond the pre-set alarm threshold, the unit instantly came alive. The integrated peristaltic sampler pulled a lab-grade sample, while IP68-rated cameras captured visual evidence of the discharge. Every detail was time-stamped and transmitted wirelessly to the utility’s WATERWAI® analytics platform — all without anyone on site knowing it was there.
The results were conclusive. Not only did the utility gain proof of over-limit discharges, but the company under investigation discovered that faulty process controls were to blame. By fixing the issue, they reduced their pollutant load, avoided further violations, and improved compliance — proving that stealth monitoring can benefit both enforcement and industry.
